The Joseph Smith Sr. family had lived in Norwich, Vermont where they suffered three consecutive years of crop failure. The family then moved to Palmyra, New York in hopes of better soil and weather conditions. The first log home is a re-creation of the original; however, it is situated at the very spot where the original home was built.
The dining/kitchen area, like most log homes, was the central gathering place.
The above picture is of the master bedroom.
This is another bedroom on the main floor.
Climbing some steep stairs is the childrens' bedrooms. This is where Joseph Smith, Jr. and his brothers would have slept and where the Angel Moroni appeared to Joseph. The room just beyond would have been the girls' bedroom.
Directly out the back door was the pasture complete with a shed and wagon.
This is the view looking outside of the log home. The family had to clear the ground and erect split rail fences. It all felt peaceful and serene.
