The meals at the Mission Presidents Seminar were delish! One evening were were bused close to Hiram, Ohio to have dinner with an Amish family. Unfortunately I don't have photos of the family. The Amish forbid pictures of themselves because they feel it's a graven image, but they didn't mind us taking photos of their buggie.

Long banquet tables were set up in a covered porch area. The main dishes were chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and lots more trimmings. Not bad considering there were about 55 of us and the meal was cooked over a propane stove. We were served by the children and grandchildren of the family. They all had the usual Amish attire--the boys had homemade trousers with suspenders and the girls were in long, plain dresses. The father had a long beard. After the meal we were able to ask them questions.
One of the funnier things of the conference happened after the meal. It seems the bus driver left the flashing park lights on so when he was ready to start the engine, it was dead. Hmmm, what do you do when you have a dead battery at an Amish home? They asked the Amish father if he had jumper cables. He politely said no. Doc imagined him saying no but I wouldn't know which end of the horse to hook them up to. Luckily, another car transported a few people to the sight and they were able to charge the battery. It was Elder Jensen who did the trick to get the bus started.

I think if the Amish had jumper cables, you would have been with a group of imposters!! He, he, he! Once again, your pictures could go in an Americana calendar. Be.a.utiful!!
