Christmas Missionary Conference in the Country

December 8 was the mission-wide Missionary Christmas Conference.  It was held in Ellington, CT, which is about a 30-minute drive from Bloomfield.  We started the conference in the chapel with a wonderful Christmas program.  I was so impressed by it, I actually asked for a copy of the script.  The missionaries performed and there's just something that tugs at your heartstrings when they sing.  The Spirit is so strong.  Needless to say, I wish I hadn't worn mascara.  It was a two-hanky program. 

The Ellington Ward Relief Society furnished the meal. The tables were decorated so sweetly and we all enjoyed the yummy turkey and trimmings. 

After the luncheon, President and Sister Pehrson lead us in some holiday fun. Nothing says Christmas like Christmas carols being played on a kazoo, right?  Oh what fun!  The ugly tie contest went to an elder who was quite proud of the accomplishment.  Another fun game had the missionaries competing to be the first to blow a bubble  from Blow Pops.  It was all great fun.

We then moved back to the chapel and the year was reviewed in DVD.  Everyone sighed as they saw the pictures of the office couple, Elder and Sister Worthington, who had been released just a week before.  President and Sister Pehrson concluded the conference with the reader's theatre I had given them that we received from President and Sister Roach. 

It was a great, great way to invite the holiday Spirit. 

I worked fast and furiously to get enough scarves knit for the sister missionaries.  They each got to pick the one they wanted.  It was a payday seeing them appreciate our small act of kindness.  We also gave all the missionaries M&Ms with the Christmas saying.

On our way back to Bloomfield, we passed this adorable country store, Klotter Farms.  We had heard the TV commercials about it and it had me intrigued enough that we stopped and oh my, was it decked out.  Outside were weather vanes of every shape and size.  I liked the flying pig and Doc thought the angel was pretty cool.  They mostly sell outdoor sheds and custom furniture.  It reminded me of Country Furniture at Gardner Village.
