Making Do

President Pehrson asked us to give up our furnishing to the new CES couple that arrived in New Haven last week. We packed just about everything including most of the dishes, chairs, table, bed stands, etc.  We kept the bed, TV and a sofa along with 2 desks that are needed for our computer and for Doc to take notes when missionaries call.

I guess you could say we're down to bare bones. The above picture is Doc during our lunch meal.  No table so we eat by sitting on the sofa.  I didn't have bowls large enough for the chicken salad so plastic containers made do.

I washed the kitchen curtains and then realized I didn't have an ironing board anymore. A towel on the kitchen stove made a dandy ironing spot.  It's all part of making do.

We're getting use to having less furniture although I do miss the two maroon chairs.  One nice thing is it's easy to vacuum. You can go from one wall all across the room in one big swoop. Thank you Kristi Baker for offered to send us a book by Henry David Thoreau about living without furniture--living simply. I think maybe we could relate just a bit.

We moved the bed into the opposite bedroom after the carpets were cleaned. Instead of putting it back on the frame, we just moved the springs and mattress. The night stand is really one of the end tables used in our living room area.

The desks that were in the bedroom were moved back to the office area. Doc did a great job to mob up all the water and re-lay the carpet.  He also cleaned the carpet and spotted the area where the metal file cabinets had left rust marks on the carpet. The office is one room that looks relatively normal with the desks and computer stand. Before a large desk with shelves was located to the right of Doc.  The way the desks are situated now allows us both to look out to the courtyard that we enjoy.
